lasanha com ovo (lasagna series)

The series of prints presented here in digital booklet format, was developed during quarantine period. It is a body of works printed using lasagna sheets as plates, generating from an interest in exploring a material strongly connected to my (Italian) identity. The prints were created using a pasta maker adapted as a printing press.

I spent lockdown in the Portuguese countryside and I was given a box of lasagna sheets so that I would be able to work on them. The box itself inspired the story that unfolded.

Egg is a quite immediate symbol for fragility, but having the chance to observe and reflect onto the relationship between humans and nature, I thought that most of the times fragility is inducted by ourselves and our actions. On the other hand, in this particular instance, fragility is also a necessary feature to allow the birth of a new life.

The full set of prints was exhibited between the 1st and the 24 of February 2023 at Centro de Documentação do Edifício Central do Municipio, Campo Grande 25, 1st floor, Lisbon, Portugal.

The video below, presented as part of Limitless, Nartwork’s 2020 online exhibition, introduces my art practice during the first months of lockdown and the creative process behind Lasanha com ovo.
